Elizabeth (Betsy) Binckes

Past President / Board Member

Betsy Binckes first became involved with MUM by volunteering in the Joseph A. Mattingly Jr. Food Pantry in 2011 and joined MUM's Board of Directors a year later. She enjoys the personal contact with MUM's clients by volunteering in the pantry. Betsy provides MUM with skills and talents developed during her career as a social worker, as well as her compassion for those who courageously meet difficult daily challenges.

Betsy holds a Master's in Social Work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work. She is currently retired. Before her retirement she worked with Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services as a caseworker for Social Services to Adults, an investigator with Adult Protective Services, and supervisor for the intake unit for Case Management and Adult Protective Services. Before joining the Department of Health and Human Services she was a therapist with Community Psychiatric Clinic working with adults and people with developmental disabilities. She also worked as a social worker in a long-term care facility.

Over the years, Betsy found when working with families in crisis, MUM often was, and remains, a resource to help stabilize difficult, hard to resolve cases. In addition to volunteering with MUM she is the coordinator for Pastoral Visitors at Cedar Lane Unitarian Universalist Church in Bethesda.

Betsy served as President of MUM's Board of Directors from 2017 through June 30, 2021, and remains an active board member.
