Food Distribution and Storage Manager
(15-20 hours/week)
Job Description
1. Managing Food Supply for Food Distributions:
- Determine what is needed for mobile and in-office food pantries from inventory in stock and food to be ordered and/or purchased.
- Review what is available from the Capital Area Food Bank, MAFRAC, produce providers, and other food sources and place orders for non-perishable food and produce.
- Receive food when it is delivered and put into the appropriate storage units and/or refrigerators.
- Provide receipts and documentation of food donations and orders to the MUM bookkeeper weekly.
2. Managing the Storage unit:
- Manage the inventory of food in storage units.
- Weigh and log donations of food.
- Ensure that donated food is sorted, crated, and stored as soon as possible after delivery.
- Keep the storage units clean, dispose of trash and recycling.
- Work with the volunteer coordinator to schedule, supervise and track the hours of volunteers in the storage unit.
3. Preparing for Mobile Food Pantries:
- Prepare crates/bins of food to go to the mobile food pantry site on Sundays.
- Prepare bags, tables, and other supplies for mobile food pantries on Sundays.
4. Loading and Unloading for the Mobile Food Pantry on Sundays:
- Prepare crates/bins of food to go to the mobile food pantry site on Sundays.
- Prepare bags, tables, and other supplies for mobile food pantries on Sundays.
- Loading and Unloading for the Mobile Food Pantry on Sundays:
- Arrive before the volunteers and open all storage units.
- Help to load the food onto dollies and into the truck.
- Help to unload, organize, and bag food at the mobile food pantry.
- Help to load the truck at the end of the mobile food pantry.
- Accompany the truck after the mobile food pantry to help put everything away in the storage unit.
Skills required:
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds repeatedly
- Access to a vehicle and willing to use it for MUM work (if possible)
- Strong organizational skills
- Flexibility
- Good communications skills
- Ability to work well with volunteers

Washington Armstrong
Mobile MUM Team Leader
Washington Armstrong has been an employee with MUM since 2014. He is the Mobile MUM Team Leader. He is responsible for being sure that the MUM Mobile Food Truck has food, volunteers, and shows up at the right location at the right time for our clients. It is important work for those who depend on MUM to help them feed themselves and their families.
In addition to his work with MUM, he is a school crossing guard for the Washington, D.C. government. Professionally, Washington’s is an engineering technician for the D.C. Government. Earlier in his career he was a long-distance bus driver for Greyhound Buses covering a large portion of the east coast.
Washington is a native Washingtonian. He graduated from Alexander Graham Bell Vocational High School. He has a daughter, a son, and one grandson. He attends Mt. Airy Baptist Church.
