Montgomery County Food Council Launches Childhood Hunger Survey

The Montgomery County Food Council is looking for input from residents to guide the development of new strategies to end hunger among children and youth in the county and has launched a short, 16-question Childhood Hunger survey. Results of the survey will inform program implementation, policy development, and future funding priorities.

The deadline for survey responses is Sunday, September 11, 2022. The survey is available in English and Spanish.

The Food Council is a local nonprofit that connects food assistance providers, including MUM, and coordinates services. Feedback from residents is essential in this process! The survey addresses:

  • What are the barriers that you face when accessing food for your household?
  • What are the resources that have been most helpful to you to address those barriers?

Residents who complete the survey will be entered in a drawing to win one of forty $25 gift cards to a local grocery store. The information collected through the survey will remain confidential and will be used only by the Food Council to improve food access in the county.

Continuing to support MUM

While life is returning to normal for some people, many in our community continue to experience food insecurity and financial difficulties from the effects of the covid-pandemic and rising costs of living in Montgomery County. MUM continues to serve 150-200 families each week at our Sunday Mobile Food Pantries. Inflation is affecting many in our community and we are also seeing a lot more clients come in for assistance to prevent evictions and utility shut-offs and for help paying for prescription drugs.

Giant Bloomin’ 4 Good – MUM will receive $1 from every Bloomin’ 4 Good bouquet sold during the month of September 2022 at the Giant Food located at 2900 University Blvd. West in Wheaton! Be sure to pick up a bouquet whenever you shop and support MUM while beautifying your surroundings!

MUM Needs Volunteers!

MUM can always use volunteers to help at our Sunday Mobile Food Pantry sites, in our office (office hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm), at food drives, and at our food storage location. See how you can help here. Support neighbors in need by calling during office hours at 301-929-8675 to volunteer!

We continue to serve neighbors in need on the first, second, and fourth Sunday of every month, as well as in our office. See our Mobile Pantry locations and schedule (English | Español).
