The Need for MUM Services Continues through Summer Months

Thank You for Giving to MUM

MUM’s Board recently elected new officers – we congratulate president Derrick Owens, vice president Dr. Tara Kern, treasurer Ro Clarke and secretary Marge Higgins. Our sincere thanks go out to retiring president Betsy Binckes, who steps down as president after four years, but remains on our board!

And of course, to all our board members, staff, volunteers, neighbors, and donors – a heartfelt thank you from MUM as we look forward and determine how best to serve neighbors in need as Montgomery County and each one of us moves forward following our pandemic restrictions!

MUM’s office continues to be open by appointment for those needing assistance with eviction, utilities, and prescription drug purchase. Appointments for assistance with eviction, utilities, and prescription drugs can be made by contacting the MUM office by telephone at 301-929-8675, by fax at 301-929-8234, or by email at office@mumhelp.org.

Our choice pantry at the office location remains closed for the time being, as the board and staff work to determine how best to meet ongoing and changing needs. Our mobile pantry operates on first, second, third, and fourth Sundays, serving the Wheaton, Kensington, Rockville, Aspen Hill, and Silver Spring areas English | Spanish. Mobile Pantry hours are 2pm – 4pm. In case of inclement weather on a Mobile Pantry Sunday please call 301-929-8675 for updates.

Often at this time of year we talk about our neighbors in need facing the extra burden of hot weather and high utility bills. That continues to be the case, even as needs and resources change and adapt as pandemic restrictions are updated.

As highlighted in May, residents of Montgomery County have access to a wide range of resources beyond what MUM can offer, including COVID Testing, Vaccination Sites, and Health Education; Healthcare; Food Resources; Financial Assistance and Employment; Housing; Immigration and Language Resources; and the Montgomery County Crisis Center. See this flyer in English and Spanish to learn more about any of these resources. English | Spanish

MUM has been fortunate throughout the pandemic to receive grants that have allowed us to continue our operations and to expand the number of people served by our mobile pantry. The continued support of individual donors has also been vital. Your donations are needed now as much as ever, we all work to figure out what the future looks like.

Giving to MUM is easy! Please consider helping now to allow MUM to continue its work! Here’s how to make a financial donation.

You can also help by volunteering! See how here.

Many of our neighbors also need baby supplies. See the MUM wish list on Amazon.

Thanks to donors like you who support MUM’s work in so many ways!
